Tips for eco-conscious travelers
Hotel stars can still not be seen as an indicator of environmentally and socially responsible action. Travelers therefore have no choice but to pay attention to transparent and trustworthy sustainability seals and take action themselves. Green Pearls® has compiled 15 tips for sustainable travel in 2024 on the Green Travel Blog. These include:
• Eco-friendly travel (no domestic or short-haul flights)
• Sustainable local transportation
• Booking a sustainable accommodation
• Use of the opt-out option at the hotel (e.g., from room cleaning) and responsible use of resources such as water
• Interaction with the culture and language of the country
• Respect for people, nature, and animals
• CO2 offsetting
• Lightweight luggage and reduction of waste.
Addicted to your phone?
While it’s a useful tool, the average person spends around three hours a day on their smart phone (45 days a year). Here are some ways to break, or at least reduce, the habit:
A) Give yourself a 24-hour period to try life without it.
B) Find other activities to reduce boredom.
C) Use an app like Moment or Rescue time to help you monitor screen time.
Isolation, embarrassment and incontinence
People often try to hide the fact that they’re dealing with toileting issues and often suffer unnecessarily with a loss of dignity. Watch for and take action if someone is:
• Refusing to go out or attend events
• Prefers not to walk far from home
• Avoids car or shopping trips
• Overly concerned about washroom locations
• Has accidents and pretends nothing happened.
It’s important to respect a person’s privacy while getting an accurate diagnosis to rule out UTI’s and other common causes which are often the culprit. You might consider protection pads or adult continence products in the meantime to provide dignity and offer discretion.
Skip the diet soda
New research suggests a 20% increased risk of an irregular heartbeat (AF: atrial fibrillation) if diet drinks with artificial sweeteners are consumed. Not treated, AF is a leading cause of stroke and can lead to blood clots and or heart failure.
